Is destiny an all-knowing, uncaring decree which lays out before us like a track? Or by our actions, can we jump the track, escape to unknown tomorrows, and become the masters of our
fate?
Steele Destinies is the story of two brothers (Dan and Alex) and a sister (Cynthia) accidentally altering destiny's plan and struggling to reweave the delicate fabric of the past, present, and future.
Steele Destinies is published by Nightscapes. Issues 1 through 5 are the first story arc which shipped on a quarterly schedule (always on time) in 1995 and 1996. Future story arcs are planned. For each of the issues already released we have included a brief synopsis including print run, schedule, availability, and other interesting tidbits.
Steele Destinies is not a superhero story. The best way to explain it is a combination of the TV series Time Tunnel, mixed with the adventurous qualities of Indiana Jones and a dab of the X Files.
Steele Destinies is finite in duration with a meaningful beginning and conclusion. We estimate that the full tale will take about twenty issues to tell. But the full tale is comprised of several storylines each designed to give the reader payback at their completion. A storyline gives payback through resolution of its own issues, while actions within and across storylines build to create an even greater conflict which is resolved only at the completion of the series. A New Beginning is the first action-packed five issue storyline. Dan is accidentally transported by the platform when creatures resembling sasquatch attack the Steeles. Where did he go? Will he ever get back? Devastating consequences ripple into future issues of the series.
If we are successful, Steele Destinies will work on several levels. You can move swiftly through the adventures of the Steele family, enjoy the characters and root for them as they struggle against insurmountable odds. Or dig more deeply into a multi-layered plot filled with ethical questions, scientific philosophies and Native American mythology.
